mTuitive's
first xPert Application is a workstation for surgical pathologists
and their departments used for synoptic reporting and structured
data capture of tumor specimens. The system provides expert
guidance and error checks while automatically coding results
with SNOMED CT®.
Benefits
By
using the product, pathology departments are ensured compliance
with accreditation standards. They are guaranteed quick, complete,
concise documentation which improves communication and decreases
questions from clinicians and cancer registrars. This process
makes for accurate collection and comparison of cancer data
which directly impacts cancer screening and treatment protocols.
xPert for Pathology provides a true single step sign out by capturing structured
data in addition to case narratives at the point of examination, which greatly
reduces costs and errors associated with transcription. Customers of the pathology
report are more satisfied by the reduction in report turn around time.
The product also eliminates costs associated with abstraction by automatically
coding reports with SNOMED CT. This improves quality of data that is transferred
to cancer registries and research databases. It also provides an audit trail
for practice compliance.
College
of American Pathologists Cancer Protocols
Cancer
Centers who maintain accreditation from the American College of Surgeons
Commission on Cancer (ACS CoC) are required to meet minimum
data reporting standards for
the classification of malignant tumors. The College of American Pathologists
(CAP) developed cancer protocols and checklists to assist pathology and oncology
departments in meeting the ACS CoC standards. SNOMED® International,
a Division of the CAP, developed the SNOMED CT encoded versions of these
checklists.
m Tuitive, Inc. was the first company to license the SNOMED CT Encoded CAP Cancer
Checklists and provides a fully electronic system for the synoptic reporting
of tumors for all of the checklists. The unique design of the product reduces
and in many cases eliminates the report transcription and data abstraction associated
with the cancer registry process.
Application
extensions to xPert for Pathology
mTuitive
is currently working with domain experts to create report templates for use in
all pathology cases, including non tumor, macroscopic, and cytology protocols.
Additionally, we are working with cancer care physicians to extend the structured
data capture process to the fields of oncology, TNM staging, radiation therapy,
radiology, and Cancer Registry reporting.
