mTuitive Co-Founder and Healthcare Visionary John Murphy Passes Away

John Murphy.jpg

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John Murphy on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. John had a storied career in both the healthcare and software industries that stretches over many years across many organizations. A great friend who was quick with a joke and a helping hand, John leaves behind an amazing legacy of leadership, entrepreneurship, vision, strength, and much more.

Originally from Newton, Massachusetts, John graduated from Babson College and later obtained an MBA from WNEC. He began his accomplished career across industries, with one of his most significant being the one he liked to joke about the most often — calling himself a “reformed hospital CFO” after his many years working in finance at Cape Cod and Jordan Hospitals. He worked closely with many physicians and other departments while constantly learning about healthcare and the need for improvements that would help fuel his vision for what would eventually become mTuitive, Inc.

John was also a thought leader in the tech world, founding and participating in multiple companies — including Software 2000, eObject, and other startups — spanning travel, healthcare, robotics, manufacturing, enterprise software, and more. He had a rare eye for talent, recruiting incredible workers from all manner of industries to help realize his visions, assembling teams that loved and admired him for his bold approaches and gentle humanity.

Along with Dr. William O’Toole, John co-founded mTuitive in 2003 not just as a business opportunity, but as a way of improving the world. He saw knowledge locked away in unstructured forms, and wisdom just out of reach for physicians, and sought to unleash it and empower these medical professionals with greater insights.

Still wearing his CFO cap, he recognized the importance of financial aspects of the healthcare industry and sought synergistic ways to enable greater quality of care. John was a great advocate for discrete data and synoptic reporting, often ahead of the curve, and forged many excellent relationships with like-minded individuals who also sought to improve healthcare. In business as in life, he made friends everywhere he went.

John wasn’t just the co-founder of mTuitive—he was its heart as well, always pushing his co-workers to explore new boundaries of what was possible to deliver the next wave of better care. He was a true people person, always quick to strike up a conversation with anyone and always eager to learn more about others and the world. He had an endless reserve of energy and curiosity, which fueled his many projects and countless relationships. He was genuinely interested in gleaning more knowledge and meeting more people to better inform and enrich his world. His is an admirable legacy of improving the lives around him simply by being himself. John was hilarious, sweet, strong, brilliant, utterly unique, and he will be greatly missed.
