mTuitive Launches New Operative Reporting Software Product

Boston, MA - mTuitive, Inc., a Massachusetts-based clinical software developer, unveiled its new product, OpNote™, at the eighth annual Orthopedic, Spine and Pain Management Driven ASC Conference in Chicago. OpNote replaces antiquated paper and dictation-based methods of recording surgeons' postoperative details with an electronic system that generates structured reports in a synoptic format. The structured report makes surgical information readily usable for sophisticated database applications for quality reporting measures, disease registries and research repositories.

OpNote eliminates the cost and reporting delays associated with transcription while accelerating the revenue cycle for the surgery center and surgeon. Reports are seamlessly cross coded for billing and compliance purposes. OpNote is priced less than the cost of transcription, meaning providers begin saving money immediately.

The software is web-based and requires no initial investment although interfaces to electronic medical records systems are available. No special hardware is required although OpNote is optimized for use on tablets and touchscreen devices. The iPad™ and the HP Touchsmart™ were particularly popular user interfaces at the conference.

"Transcription and data abstraction (the process of mining data from unstructured medical records) are redundant processes that add no value to the healthcare delivery system. No one appreciates this more than surgeons who invest in ambulatory surgery centers," stated John Murphy, mTuitive CEO. "The major challenge we faced was to design a product that was easy to use, flexible and complete. I am confident that we got it right. More than fifty surgeons participated in our usability trials and not one has been dissatisfied."

Dr. John Mattson, an orthopedic surgeon from Berkeley CA who beta tested the software, had this to say about OpNote: "The benefits of this system are significant. In less than two minutes, and with minimal effort by the surgeon, an electronic report complete with codes and full details of the surgical findings is available without the need for transcription or any delays that exist under current systems. A standardized operative report which includes important details benefits the surgeon, the patient, subsequent treating physicians and potential medical liability defenses."
