Antelope Valley Medical Center Selects mTuitive OpNote for Synoptic Surgery Reporting for Cancer Accreditation
Meeting New Commission On Cancer Requirements
August 31, 2022
BOSTON, MA—mTuitive, Inc., the global leader in synoptic reporting solutions, announced that California’s Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) has selected mTuitive OpNote to fulfill the synoptic surgery reporting requirements of the Cancer Surgery Standards Program (CSSP) put forth by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). mTuitive OpNote is a web-based electronic post-operative reporting solution that removes the burden of administration related to compliance of CSSP. OpNote embraces interoperability by providing a tightly integrated EHR reporting solution by utilizing SMART-on-FHIR to fuel surgeons’ efficient workflows.
ACS’ Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredits cancer programs which requires adoption of surgical standards 5.3—5.6 of the Optimal Resources for Cancer Care 2020, which includes reporting elements and formats for certain cancer operations. These standards are intended solely as qualification criteria for CoC accreditation and must be implemented by January 1, 2023.
“Antelope Valley Medical Center has been providing excellent care to their community for almost 70 years. We were already honored to be a part of service that places patients first as they’ve been using our pathology reporting solution for years,” said Colin Murphy, CEO of mTuitive. “And now this structured data approach to operative reporting ensures that similar invaluable insights about cancer surgeries is being captured in a way that can be used downstream, along with other healthcare agencies and resources across the country. We are grateful to work with the tremendous staff of AVMC in their mission to offer the best care to all their patients.”
"We value maintaining best practices and complying with all requirements to offer optimum patient care," said Edward Mirzabegian, CEO of Antelope Valley Medical Center."We've previously worked with mTuitive for pathology synoptic reporting, and we're excited to bring that same relationship and quality into this new surgical initiative from the Commission on Cancer. By capturing structured data with eFRM and OpNote, AVMC furthers its goals of providing patients with the best healthcare built on insights culled from vital information."
AVMC offers the people in the Antelope Valley, and surrounding areas with extensive oncology care via their comprehensive community cancer center. This CSSP standard is the latest way to document AVMC’s adherence to best practices. In addition to mTuitive, AVMC is also collaborating with Cerner (AVMC’s Electronic Health Record solution provider) to meet these new criteria. This allows the operative report to be readily available to all pertinent healthcare providers for excellent continuity-of-care and expanded knowledge base. AVMC’s combination of pathology and surgical synoptic reporting from mTuitive exponentially expands the value, impact, and efficiency of the information being captured.

About mTuitive, Inc.
Based out of Massachusetts, mTuitive was the first company to license the Cancer Protocols content from the CAP for pathology and the ACS for surgery. mTuitive has been leading the way with synoptic reporting in healthcare since 2003. Co-founded by a surgical pathologist who saw how much powerful information is locked inside unsearchable, unstructured text. The company developed new technology and proprietary authoring tools to create reports that would be easy-to-use for physicians, vastly improving the workflow while ensuring comprehensiveness of the reports and gained much success worldwide through its innovative approaches. Eventually partnering with the College on the CAP eFRM pathology reporting solution, mTuitive has also created similar reporting offerings for surgery, mental health, radiology, and more.
